Plot
Alex Gregory is a 16-year-old boy. One night while his mom was on her date and his dad ran off with his third-grade teacher, Alex decided to get drunk. He took his mom's car and decided to pay his dad a visit. The next thing he knows he hit a $500 lawn gnome and was puking on a police officer. To pay back the $500 Alex has to do 100 hours of community service at a nursing home. He is assigned to an elderly man who has the ability to run a volunteer worker home in tears.[3]
Alex is frustrated by Sol but the judge won't change his assignment. One day Alex decides to play his guitar for Sol. Sol and Alex start to bond after Alex plays his music.[4] Sol hears about Alex's best friend Laurie. After meeting her, Sol thinks Alex should have a relationship with her. Alex doesn't agree. He knows that Laurie is a martial-arts expert. Everything is going great with Alex and Sol. Alex even has a concert with Steven and Annette from Sonnenblick's first book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. Alex learns to bond with Sol and they have a great friendship.
Then when Alex goes to his school dance Sol is rushed to the hospital. Alex must decide if he should stay or go help Sol. Alex learns a lot from Sol and even learns some lessons.
